Cameras
Underwater photography can be a great way to document your underwater activities or even a great reason to go diving! We offer a full range of underwater photo equipment from disposable snapshot cameras to underwater film cameras and housings for professional SLR cameras. And just as topside photography is shifting toward digital imaging, you can now get a great underwater digital camera, too! If you don’t see what you’re looking for here, you may also wish to check the Sea and Sea website. They offer additional housings for other cameras including topside digital and video cameras, for example. Call or e-mail for pricing and delivery on anything you’re interested in. See also the Camera Accessories page for strobes, lenses and other underwater camera accessories. For further guidance see the Camera Buyer’s Guide at the bottom of the page. Additional parts and accessories are also available for most cameras. Call or e-mail with you specific needs.
Sea and Sea Motor Marine III
The new generation of Motor Marine is more rugged and offers more control than ever before. Designed to meet the needs of the amateur and experienced underwater photographer. With features like two point focus for fast reliable focusing and a target light for accurate framing, the MMIII is a perfect choice for the beginning photographer. Advanced features like strobe bracketing control and push-button shutter speed control provide creative freedom for the experienced photographer. All the controls of the MM III are on the top or back of the camera making them easier to read and operate.
The MMIII has many features never before offered on an underwater camera. Features that let you photograph the way you want.
Create beautiful images of the underwater world with a new level of freedom and expression.
20mm F3.8 Primary Lens makes it easy to focus
Wide-angle F3.8 lens has extended depth of field, allows minimum focusing distance of 23cm (at F22) and provides spectacular wide and macro photography. With its 77° underwater picture angle, the Motor Marine III captures a near panoramic view of the underwater world. Close-up photography especially benefits from the extended depth of field with a sharper image and brighter colour. Optional macro lens 3.5T, macro lens 2T and 15mm wide conversion lens are al bayonet mounted for easy attachment and underwater exchange. Four lens options are available for unlimited flexibilty.
High-performance aperture- priority AE function
Set the desired aperture for the depth of field. You need and let the camera control the shutter speed. This feature takes the guesswork out of creating wide-angle images with bright backgrounds. Since the shutter speed does not affect the flash lighting, the camera will choose the correct speed to balance with the available light.
5-pin strobe connector N type adopted
This connector enables TTL photography using Sea & Sea YS-series strobes (Nikonos V-type connector, connects to all strobes except YS-25DX and YS-60TTL/S}.
Target Light guarantees accurate framing
The target light turns on for 5 seconds when the shutter release is pressed half way. This feature can be disabled with an ON/OFF switch when it is not necessary.
A rugged underwater camera with depth rating of 60m/200ft
With a lighter yet stronger body than MMII-EX (depth rated at 45m/150ft), MMIII has achevied the depth rating of 60m/200ft and its stylish design provides durability beyond previous Motor Marine models.
LCD display panel is illuminated for night diving or dark water
New LCD display gives easy to read shutter speed and film counter information to the photographer.
Two-point focusing: Takes the guesswork out of focusing
User cam select either (infinity) setting or 0.6m setting and just press the shutter release. No more out of focus shots. Distance - (infinity) setting 0.7m - infinity/0.6m point: 0.4m-im (at F5.6)
TTL Strobe bracketing function
The flash output can be controlled from the camera. Adjust the light level that your flash puts on the subject without affecting the background light. The flash is adjustable in TTL and manual lighting modes (adjustment can not be increased passed full flash output) For even more creative control, add a Spot adaptor used your flash (sold separately).
Electronic Shutter Release
Synchroization (TTL external strobe triggering) is available with all shutter speeds (1/15,1/30,1/60,1/25 and 1/250). Shutter speed is indicated on the LCD display. Tthe MM111 uses a simple and smooth dial for 6-step aperture control (f3.8, f5.6,f8, f11, f16 and f22

Sea and Sea AquaPix
The AquaPix is a fully functional 3.1 megapixel digital camera that is truly amphibious. This greatly reduces the chances of water damage and flooding of the camera. By having access again to ALL of the controls this again will assist in alleviating the water damage problem. If the diver does sustain water damage, the AquaPix is fully insured by DEPP insurance, “Out of the Box”.
• Employs a meniscus lense that can be used above or below the surface. The standard lense is a 38mm and the AquaPix utilizes all of the lenses designed for the MX10.
• Has a built in color correction filter and macro lense (patent pending). With the “flip of switch” the diver can move between using the color correction filter, no filter or use the close-up lense. (the color filter is used to produce a more natural color when using available light, when shooting close-up, generally the photographer is using artificial light, strobes). The macro lense can be used at a distance as close as 4 inches. This is all done internally.
• Has a built in Flash Diffuser to disperse the light from the onboard flash to assist in eliminating backscatter and to “soften” the light.
• Flashmodes: no flash, auto flash, red eye reduction flash or standard flash.
• Contains a built in 16 MB memory, enough to capture 20 images in the 3MB fine mode,
• Takes Smart Media (SM) cards to provide additional image memory.
• Comes standard with a complete storage, editing and image manipulation software.
• Is capable of capturing 2 minutes and 43 seconds of video which is saved in the AVI format.
• Compact, much smaller than competitors with more features.

Camera Buyer’s Guide
The underwater world is an exotic wonderland full of strange sights that your landlubber friends and
family have never seen. One of the best ways to share your experiences with them and to help preserve the
memories for yourself is to take pictures of your underwater adventures. And, of course, if you are a
serious photographer, the underwater world offers a whole new arena to exercise your creativity, whatever
your particular subject interests may be. Underwater photography is not difficult, but it does have some
unique characteristics that you need to learn and adapt to as a photographer. First, of course, you need
waterproof equipment, and then you need a little knowledge. If you don’t have an underwater photographer
friend to get you started, you can take one of Aqua Safaris’ Underwater Photography classes. We also
offer books to help you hone your skills.
As with above-water photography, there are a full range of camera possibilities from disposables to
professional film cameras, digital cameras and video cameras. If you’re a snapshot photographer who just
wants to document a dive vacation, a disposable or point and shoot camera may be all you ever want to use.
But be aware that such cameras
are basically limited to very shallow water (under 20 feet). Water absorbs red light relatively quickly,
and you will need good artificial light for greater depths. (That’s why natural light photos from
underwater often look mostly blue.)
The next step up is similar to the popular above-water viewfinder cameras. Most recreational underwater
photographers use these film cameras. The Sea and Sea MX5, MX10 and Motor Marine III are popular choices using
35 mm film with increasing sophistication. Most users should get a good strobe to capture the colors your
eyes see, since you will find your photo results disappointing without one. Other popular accessories
include macro lenses (much of what is exciting to look at on reefs, for example, is very small), filters to
improve color balance and wide angle lenses (to allow you to get the “big picture” from relatively close
up when the visibility is not great).
Digital underwater cameras have now arrived! If you’ve made the transition to digital above water, you’ll
probably want to use one underwater as well. We offer the Sea and Sea AquaPix, the first fully amphibious 3.1 MPixel camera. Take 100s of pictures if you like at no additional cost and
select the best later! As with film cameras, you’ll probably want an external strobe and possibly at least
a macro lens accessory.
Of course, if you’re a serious photographer who needs high-resolution images for enlargement to larger
formats, or you want more complete control over exposure, aperture, and focal length, you can use
professional cameras underwater as well. We offer housings for two popular SLR cameras from Nikon and
Canon that give you access to most camera functions.
If you’re not on a limited budget, we recommend a housed camera system. The results obtained with these
systems are significantly better with a much faster learning curve. We have found divers with no
photography experience can achieve excellent results even on their first dive with a modern fully automatic
camera. This applies to both film cameras and good digital cameras.
