Wreck diving along with cave diving, ice diving,
deep diving and any diving where you cannot
reach the surface on a single breath can be
extremely hazardous. Perhaps the most common
cause of death among otherwise experienced divers
(even instructors!) is a failure to appreciate
the dangers and loss of safety margin that can
occur in even very shallow wrecks and caves.
Aqua Safaris believes that unless you are well-trained
and equipped, you should never go further
than sticking your head into an opening of any
confined space underwater without special training
and multiply redundant life-support gear.
This class provides that special training for
those divers who want to penetrate inside and
explore ship wrecks. It teaches people who are
already competent divers how to minimize the
risks of wreck diving. Topics nclude decompression
theory, equipment rigging and use, wreck diving
philosophy, penetration techniques, reel line
use, siltation, proper finning, air sharing,
buddy selection, gas redundancy, equipment redundancy,
emergency procedures, gas selection, ship wreck
surveying and search, wreck structure recognition,
wreck preservation, structural stability, navigation
skill, as well as deep wreck diving techniques.
This class involves eight hours of classroom
work, one confined water dive, and as many wreck
dives as practical.
