Grand
Turk
The Turks & Caicos Islands are located approximately
575 miles southeast of Miami (about 1.5 hours
flying time from Miami to Providenciales, then
1/2 hour to Grand Turk) with the Bahamas 30
miles to the northwest and the Dominican Republic
100 miles to the southeast. The country consists
of two island groups separated by a 22 mile
passage. To the west are the Caicos Islands:
West Caicos, Providenciales, North, Middle,
East and South Caicos. To the east are the Turks
Islands: Grand Turk and Salt Cay. The total
land area is 166 square miles. The official
language is English, water temperatures range
from 75–86° F year-round and the nearest
recompression chamber is located on Providenciales.
M/V
Wind Dancer departs every Saturday from
Grand Turk. In 1987 Peter Hughes decided on
Grand Turk as the ideal destination to operate.
Why? Because Grand Turk, Salt Cay and South
Caicos offered some of the best diving opportunities
available.
Guests will discover pristine diving areas
in shallow water and the world’s best
wall diving on dramatic coral cliffs that drop
from 30 feet to over 7,000 feet just 300 yards
off the western shore of Grand Turk. The deep
trenches around this island group attract large
pelagics such as reef and nurse sharks, manta
and eagle rays, dolphins and humpback whales
(during their winter migration). Experience
the excitement of Grand Turk, South Caicos and
Salt Cay, still today undoubtedly one of the
Atlantic and Caribbean region’s best kept
diving secrets enjoyed by only a few privileged
divers over the past decade as progress has
galloped through the Caribbean leaving Grand
Turk quietly, positively and beautifully behind.
